Many are opting for direct flights, steering clear of short layovers, and purchasing travel insurance earlier than usual to mitigate the risk of delays or unexpected disruptions. Maknickas notes the shift in traveller preparation: "Even when flights continue operating normally, uncertainty changes how people prepare for trips. Passengers increasingly want to feel prepared for unexpected situations, whether that means having offline boarding passes ready, avoiding risky layovers, or ensuring they have internet access immediately after landing abroad."

The heightened anxiety among travellers is also a reflection of broader fatigue stemming from several years of strikes, staffing shortages, extreme weather events, and operational disruptions that have plagued airports and airlines worldwide. This history of instability has led many passengers to prioritise flexibility and preparedness when planning trips abroad.

In response to these concerns, Maknickas offers a checklist for the new summer travel season. He advises travellers to download boarding passes and hotel confirmations offline, avoid very short layovers during peak travel periods, monitor airline updates before departure, prepare backup payment methods, and save important travel documents on their devices before flying. Additionally, he suggests allowing extra buffer time for airport connections to accommodate any unforeseen delays.

While experts do not currently anticipate widespread shutdowns of international air travel, the rising operational costs and geopolitical instability are expected to continue impacting the overall travel experience throughout the summer months.
