How to request rent changes?
It may come as a surprise to tenants, but rents aren’t set in stone and can be negotiated.
This video will provide you with the basic steps you should follow to change the terms of your rental payments. It’s important to work through the tick list correctly so that it can be determined that you are in genuine need of assistance.
To help tenants who are going through financial hardships or drastic changes in their personal circumstances that render them unable to pay their rent, the government has laid out a process to seek changes in their rental terms.
If you can’t pay your rent due to extraordinary circumstances, you can request changes to your rental terms by sending in a formal request.
When seeking rental relief, tenants are advised to clearly state their current understanding of rent arrangements – amount, due dates and length of lease. Then, provide details on what changes you would like to implement, whether that be reduced rent and/or a change in lease duration or payment timings. Tenants must also provide details of their changes in employment or financial circumstances to demonstrate hardship.
Provide information about what government assistance you qualify for and whether you’ve already applied for it. And finally, give details on household finances and how they are changing.
Follow these steps for your request to be processed appropriately and you can get the rental relief you are looking for.
